A fellow blogger and amazing photographer I follow on WordPress, Amy Rose, recently lost a dear friend and in the same week, was told her mother has only months to live. The photos she posted on her most recent blog (the featured image above is one) capture the power of her emotions as she was experiencing them. These photos are stunning. They capture her broken heart and feelings of loss, sadness and grief. I can also see in them her heart full of love and joy, as if while in her grief, she was remembering the times she spent with her friend. These photos embody life. From a death . . .  life was born through creation.

Amy was touched that I could see what truly is within her images by feeling and interpreting them. She wrote “Yes deep emotions are contained in my work here and I cannot thank you enough for telling me you SEE. My work is done for you now have the impetus, the Secret, to do the very same in your Life … create LIFE.”

This is the point of my post. Creation and life. Many of us are familiar with Einstein’s quote:

“Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.”

It is quite powerful really. I can see now Einstein was speaking about creativity. Another familiar saying comes to mind: As one dies, another is born. What Amy had me realize through her photography is that yes, as one dies another is born, but the one born may not be a person, it might just be a creation of some kind, or a change of form as Einstein suggests. I could see all of Amy’s emotions in her photographs – they were saying “Live!” Amy knows she can create life through her photos and the mere fact that I can “see” this, according to Amy, I can now create life. This message took a while to sink in, but I believe I finally got it.

We are all creators. I could see it and feel it in her photographs, it was internalized. That’s why when Amy said – you now can create life, I knew it was true. Creating life though? I never thought of it that way. But creations do take on a life, they can become alive in the eyes of the beholder. It is birthing something into creation. It is life. It puts creation into a different realm for me.

I used to say “I’m not creative.” and really meant it. I can’t draw, paint, write, sculpt, etc. I’m not an artist. This was creation in my world, very small and limited to basically art. It was also quite depressing, and the “case was closed” on creativity. Now, though, after seeing Amy’s creations, I must ask myself – where am I creating life? What are my God-given gifts, the ones he wants me to use to create life with? I have some pondering to do!! But it is a more exciting prospect and opens up a whole new world for me, one I can be excited about!
