Healing Grief, transformation of death through creation

Transforming Death into Life through Creation

A fellow blogger and amazing photographer I follow on WordPress, Amy Rose, recently lost a dear friend and in the same week, was told her mother has only months to live. The photos she posted on her most recent blog (the featured image above is one) capture the power of her emotions as she was experiencing them. These photos are stunning. They capture her broken heart and feelings of loss, sadness and grief. I can also see in them her heart full of love and joy, as if while in her grief, she was remembering the times she spent with her friend. These photos embody life. From a death . . .  life was born through creation.

(I will provide a link to her blog at the end of this post so you can spend time viewing her photographs . . . or rather, creations!)

Amy was touched that I could see what truly is within her images by feeling and interpreting them. She wrote “Yes deep emotions are contained in my work here and I cannot thank you enough for telling me you SEE. My work is done for you now have the impetus, the Secret, to do the very same in your Life … create LIFE.

This is the point of my post. Creation and life. Many of us are familiar with Einstein’s quote:

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.

It is quite powerful really. I can see now Einstein was speaking about creativity. Another familiar saying comes to mind: As one dies, another is born. What Amy had me realize through her photography is that yes, as one dies another is born, but the one born may not be a person, it might just be a creation of some kind, or a change of form as Einstein suggests. I could see all of Amy’s emotions in her photographs – they were saying “Live!” Amy knows she can create life through her photos and the mere fact that I can “see” this, according to Amy, I can now create life. This message took a while to sink in, but I believe I finally got it.

We are all creators. I could see it and feel it in her photographs, it was internalized. That’s why when Amy said – you now can create life, I knew it was true. Creating life though? I never thought of it that way. But creations do take on a life, they can become alive in the eyes of the beholder. It is birthing something into creation. It is life. It puts creation into a different realm for me.

I used to say “I’m not creative.” and really meant it. I can’t draw, paint, write, sculpt, etc. I’m not an artist. This was creation in my world, very small and limited to basically art. It was also quite depressing, and the “case was closed” on creativity. Now, though, after seeing Amy’s creations, I must ask myself – where am I creating life? What are my God-given gifts, the ones he wants me to use to create life with? I have some pondering to do!! But it is a more exciting prospect and opens up a whole new world for me, one I can be excited about!

Thanks Amy for sharing your creations! They did indeed create life!!

OH, Donna, I am so excited for you. You remind me of one of my sisters who claims she is not creative. Bull. Everyone has an outlet. Now you have to find it. But don’t get caught up in knots trying so hard. Ask yourself questions and really “feel” how you react to them. What draws you? Why do you have the “artist eye”? Only a few have that, and you most definitely do. What do you like to do? Cook, bake, sew, crochet, draw (I know you said you couldn’t but … do you LIKE to draw?), photography, graphic design, math, write, crafts, volunteer, … and the list goes on. I’ve always wanted to draw but two things are against me or rather three … I want to draw a certain way but am not able to, I don’t sit still well, and my hand does not wish to have the discipline it takes to draw well. So I draw fast and yes I do convey what I want across and I’ve had comments like “LOVE what you draw” even though I myself am “critical” and “wishing different”. See? Even I do that. I love working with my hands yes, even with a hammer and nails. I just LOVE making things. Creating health for my cats is another huge area of my life and yes it is creating. So many options. What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? Your likes? Your dislikes? Where does your Heart pull you again and again? Or have you not really listened to it?
My main “thing” is my camera, with a heavy second in writing. But that is not all to me, Donna. I have many other ways I create. Oh gardening is another, which I also do. I wish you SO much luck and every happiness when you finally decide to PLAY! Yep, play as your wee ones jump and down from excitement! Time for all out FUN and happiness. GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! ❤

It is exciting! And a whole new world opens up! I may need to exercise my left brain a bit more – but it will be fun!! There is a lot I love to do but never thought of it as creating. Making things is great fun. We’ll see what opens up!! Who knows, it might even be another book! Thanks again Amy for letting me show off your photography! I really appreciate it!! ❤️
